The tequila family legacy begins to consolidate with Eduardo Orendain Orendain, important figure in the history of Magdalena and Tequila, since the second decade of the twentieth century who founded Tequila Orendain de Jalisco, SA, continuing the family tradition since 1844. From that time, and with the consolidation of the tequila industry, the name Orendain has been an important part of the tequila industry.
His descendant, Don Eduardo Orendain González, married Doña Mercedes Hernández Montano, who shared his passion for the tequila. His greatest legacy is the love and care for the field, because there grows the wonderful plant used to produce the best tequila.
The market grew very fast so he settled in the distillery La Mexicana, which still owned by the Orendain family in second direct generation.
He was founder and first president of the Regional Chamber of Tequila Industry and of The Tequila Regulatory Council where it can be found a bust of him.
The next generation has been promoting the Tequila Official Standard, the Denomination of Origin and have been founding members of the Tequila Regulatory Council.
His successors have taken the Tequila Ollitas, Gran Orendain, Cantinero and Batanga among other brands, to the demanding palates not only of Mexico, but also to countries such as the United States, Canada, England, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia, Austria, New Zealand, Chile, Brazil, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Panama, San Salvador and Guatemala.
In the year of 1840 was when the first Orendain family started in the world of tequila establishing relationships with the leading families of delicious liquor at the time.
In 1926 DON EDUARDO ORENDAIN begins with his company acquiring a small and rusty distillery.
Undoubtedly the secret of excellence that has marked Tequila Orendain, is the love for this industry closely linked to the love for the field and its development.
“La Mexicana” is still owned by the second generation Orendain Family, which has allowed the quality and tradition of their Tequilas continue conquering even the most discerning palates in Mexico and around the world.
Proof of this is that in 2015 all Tequila Gran Orendain Añejo and Reposado were awarded with the Gold Medal and Gran Orendain Blanco with a The Great Gold Medal, recognized as one of the best spirituous beverages of the year, competing with the best whiskeys, cognacs, brandies and tequilas in the world, in the annual contest Spirits Selection in Brussels, Belgium; and in 2019 the turn was for Tequila Ollitas Blanco, Reposado and Cristalino to be awarded with the gold medal of that same contest.
